Senior Software Engineer

Profile

Senior Software Engineer with 15+ years of experience building and operating distributed backend systems at Google and Amazon. Experienced in event processing, streaming data, and production reliability for global scale systems.

Experience

Independent iOS/iPadOS Developer & Primary Family Caregiver

2025–Present

  • Built and launched Practice Fast Math, a free SwiftUI iPad app for practicing math facts, with a kid-friendly interface and SceneKit-animated donut rewards. (Swift)
  • Built and launched Place That Thought, an iPhone app that keeps configurable emoji-and-text reminders visible in the Dynamic Island, with iCloud sync and controls from Control Center, the Lock Screen, Action Button, and Shortcuts. (Swift)

Senior Software Engineer (L5), Google (Ads Attribution)

Remote | 2020–2025

The Attribution team built systems to measure which ads led to conversions across products including Google Ads, Search Ads 360, and Display & Video 360, helping advertisers optimize their campaigns.

  • Owned and operated a Java gRPC service that normalized live database reads and daily dumps from disparate source schemas into versioned attribution records, enabling reproducible historical reprocessing with the configuration in effect at the time. (Java)
  • Designed the service's Spanner data model to accommodate oversized source records and evolving schemas, using an inverted representation; built Java ingestion pipelines using distributed SQL to populate it from large-scale logs and real-time streams. (Java, Spanner, SQL)
  • Integrated the attribution service with a changelog-based notification system via Pub/Sub, using its SQL-like DSL to compare prior and updated records, filter relevant changes, and trigger real-time updates. (Java)
  • Owned the Google Ads integration within a shared cross-product attribution platform, translating partner-team requirements into technical designs and driving review and rollout.
  • Served as primary on-call engineer for production attribution services in a two-week rotation, leading incident response and root-cause analysis. (Java, SQL)
  • Split a monolithic build target spanning ~100 gRPC commands into independently buildable and testable targets, automating the migration in Python and reducing builds for isolated RPC changes from ~80 seconds to ~5 seconds. (Python, Java, Guice, gRPC)
  • Partitioned a monolithic CI test group into targeted groups, allowing the team's commits to be verified independently and exposing cross-team package breakages earlier. (Python, Java, CI/CD)
  • Built Python code-generation templates that reduced the work to add each gRPC command by 1–2 hours, generating Protocol Buffers definitions, Java command and verifier code, tests, and build configuration. (Python, Java, Protocol Buffers, gRPC)

Software Engineer III (L4), Google (Attribution)

Irvine, California | 2016–2020

  • Led the rewrite of the Ads Attribution frontend from an isolated JavaScript iframe to AngularDart, enabling direct navigation from Google Ads to specific Attribution reports and aligning the UI and authentication flow with the platform. (AngularDart, HTML, CSS, Dart)
  • Collaborated on a new Attribution frontend in Angular 2+ and TypeScript, supporting the migration from JavaScript to TypeScript. (TypeScript, Java, Angular 2+, HTML, CSS)
  • Enhanced an internal AngularJS tool used to create attribution scenarios. (JavaScript, Java, Angular.js, HTML, CSS)

SDE II, Amazon (Personalization)

Irvine, California | 2014–2016

  • Built personalized Apps and Games recommendations and top charts for Amazon Fire TV in Java. (Java)
  • Automated recovery for failed asynchronous recommendation jobs in Java and shell, and built Perl and web-based tools to analyze recommendation behavior and quality. (Java, Shell, JavaScript, HTML, Perl)

SDE II, Amazon (Appstore)

Irvine, California | 2011–2014

  • Built an end-to-end Android install-attribution system for the Amazon Appstore, linking client-side APK tags to server-side validation. (Android, Java)
  • Built a modular Java/XSLT build and runtime layer that let multiple teams contribute to one Android app without exceeding DEX method limits. (Android, Java, XSLT)
  • Diagnosed memory leaks and used Java AOP with Python analysis tooling to profile and improve Android application performance. (Android, Java, Python)

SDE I, Amazon (Appstore & Merchant Tech)

Irvine, California | 2008–2011

  • Launched the original Amazon Appstore for Android as one of a handful of initial mobile developers, building the Java client. (Android, Java)
  • Engineered full-stack Java order-management features for third-party sellers, including caching that cut page load time by hundreds of milliseconds. (Java)
